With this intensive course in one of the many beautiful Grisons steep ice climbing areas you will acquire the basics to be able to climb smaller and larger icefalls on your own. All questions of safety are at the top of the list, but the fun will not be neglected!
Benefit from our extensive experience in steep ice climbing and the latest findings in climbing techniques and equipment. We provide the necessary rental equipment such as the special steep ice equipment and crampons. And with the help of video analysis you will make fast progress for even more fun - even on summer tours.

per person with 3 - 5 participants per guide, including guide rate, guide expenses and rental equipment.

The pleasure of discovering and trying out this fascinating winter mountaineering sport. Basic knowledge of belaying, climbing and crampon techniques is advantageous. Juice and strength in the forearms and/or a good technique ;-)!

Program

Training in steep ice climbing techniques, handling of belaying equipment, climbing an icefall. Course locations: Safiental, Sertig, Flüela, Weisstannental, Vals, Avers.

In mountain sports, steep ice climbing is one of the more demanding disciplines. However, with the right knowledge, caution, planning and experience, climbing an icefall can be an unforgettable experience.
Steep ice climbing is a technically and physically demanding sport. As icefalls and ice formations can change daily, they present themselves in a new way every day. The fascination of this diversity is often reflected in the names of the routes such as "Journey to the realm of the ice dwarves", "Shark's teeth" or "Tears of the Ice Princess". With this course you will get to know the fascination of steep ice climbing and acquire the most important safety skills.

Monday: Meeting point at 08.05 a.m. at Reichenau-Tamins station (a timetable for arrival with public means of transport is enclosed with the course confirmation). Other meeting points are also possible depending on the circumstances and will be notified at the latest when the list of participants is sent out. After the arrival and the march Icefall Climbing Training with the topics climbing technique, securing methods, placing ice screws and other securing means, setting up a belaystation, tactical and mental preparation. Depending on the progress of the course, we will also make video recordings of ice climbing.
After dinner we will have time to discuss some topics such as preparing crampons and ice axes, material science and the objective dangers of ice climbing.
Overnight stay in a mountain guesthouse depending on the chosen training area.

Tuesday: Deepen the training and apply what you have learned in a single- or multi-rope ice-fall climbing tour.
Today we place special emphasis on safety and the dangers of climbing a multi-rope-length icefall and descending or abseiling. After the return journey to our meeting point, the course is completed in the course of the later afternoon and the individual journey home.
