Sardinia: Climbing in the Mediterranean Sea

Italy - Europe

Sardinia, Cala Gonone - Sardinia
04.10 - 12.10.2025
The bays and walls around the village of Cala Gonone on the east coast of Sardinia are among the dream destinations for every pleasure climber. The steep and rough limestone rock forms a strong contrast to the endless expanse of the sea.
One of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, Cala Luna, is also a paradise for climbers. And the high valley of Surtana is simply a dream, both for climbing and for nature and tranquility. All the areas are in the immediate vicinity, so there is no need for long journeys and we can fully concentrate on climbing. Pure climbing pleasure!

Your advantages at a glance:

- Overnight stays in a comfortable holiday apartment with double rooms and breakfast on the terrace, 150 meters from the sea
- Joint return journey from Bellinzona by bus from the mountaineering school
- Overnight stay on the ferry in four-bed cabins

Imagine climbing on the white, handy limestone, warmed by the sun, the slightly salty, refreshing breeze tingling on your skin and your gaze gliding over rugged cliffs towards the azure sea....that's plaisir climbing in Sardinia! The climbing areas around the Cala Gonone on the east coast and the nearby inland areas offer us climbing pleasure, the sea provides the necessary refreshment and culinary we are spoiled with the fine Sardinian cuisine!

Saturday and Sunday: Meeting point on Saturday at Bellinzona railway station at 14.30 hrs. Together we take the bus of the mountain sports school to Livorno and cross over by ferry to Olbia, where we arrive early Sunday morning. Drive to Cala Gonone in the beautiful Golfo di Orosei. After an extensive breakfast in our holiday apartment we start to discover the most beautiful climbing gardens.

Sunday to Saturday: Together we will determine our climbing area for the day and the program. The areas Serendippo, La Poltrona, Cala and Codula Fuili, Buchi Arta, Surtana and Margheddìe with their different climbing gardens are all worth one or more visits. You can reach them from Cala Gonone by bus from the Mountain Sports School. The climbs are versatile and varied. Climbing gardens located directly above the sea alternate with multi-pitch routes. Depending on the climbing area a short or even shorter ascent leads us through a wild and intact natural landscape to our dream rocks. After climbing we refresh ourselves by swimming in the sea and/or enjoy a gelati and a fine espresso in the bars.
In the evening we visit the restaurants in the harbour or in the small town of Cala Gonone.

Saturday and Sunday: After breakfast we enjoy a last extensive climbing day. In the evening we start our journey home to Switzerland. Drive to Olbia and with the night ferry to Livorno. Afterwards return journey via Milano to Bellinzona. End of the climbing week and individual journey home.

Apart from visiting the most rewarding climbing areas we do not forget the training. During the week we will cover various topics such as abseiling, belaying, setting up belay places, improving individual climbing techniques, etc. After the climbing we have the opportunity to visit the beautiful towns of Cala Gonone and Dorgali or to relax by swimming.
